STEM Summer Scholars Institute
The Indiana University STEM Summer Scholars Institute (STEM SSI) is an 8-week on-campus undergraduate research program designed to give motivated undergraduate students hands-on experience in graduate-level research.
We welcome applicants from partner Minority Serving Institutions (MSI) around the United States who are seriously considering joining a doctoral graduate program after completing their undergraduate degree.

Program details
The STEM SSI emphasizes direct laboratory experience. Students spend the majority of their time learning research techniques in the laboratory, attending lab meetings, interacting with members of other labs, and otherwise conducting themselves just as if they were in graduate school. In addition to laboratory research, the program features:
- Eight weeks of lab research at Indiana University Bloomington campus
- On-campus housing for 8 weeks + meal card
- Group meals and events
- Poster presentation and closing ceremony at the conclusion of the research
- Competitive stipend (up to $4,000)
