As the end of the Spring semester approaches, I wish you all the best for success in your coursework, projects and ongoing research and creative activities. I also look forward to congratulating all graduate and professional candidates who are finishing their studies this year, and to welcoming their family and friends, at the Graduate Commencement Ceremony next week!
This month’s newsletter includes reminders of upcoming fellowship deadlines, the gradSERU survey, and the announcement of two new staff in the Graduate School.
In response to the call for increase graduate enrollments in the IUB 2030 strategic plan, we are working closely with faculty and academic programs to develop new, innovative online masters degree programs and linking IUB bachelor’s enrollees to existing masters degrees through our Accelerated Masters (AMP) program. To facilitate these efforts, we created a new position, Director of Graduate Admissions, and I am pleased to report that we have hired Jonathan Perez, an Indiana University alumnus who has more than 20 years of experience in graduate admissions, recruitment, and enrollment management planning at Stanford University and the Universities of Evansville, South Florida and Tennessee. Learn more about Jonathan in this IU Today feature.
I am excited to announce that after an extended search, we have hired Dr. Babaee as Assistant Dean for Diversity & Inclusion. Dr. Babaee has a broad range of experience and brings a unique perspective to our DEI initiatives. He holds a Ph.D and an MFA in the arts, with a strong focus on social justice advocacy. His most recent position was as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Theatre, Drama and Contemporary Dance here at IU Bloomington. We look forward to his leadership and I encourage you to learn more about him in this Engage IU "Five Questions With..." feature.
As we announced in the March 2024 newsletter, we have joined the gradSERU consortium and are using this survey instrument to assess the overall graduate and professional student experience at IU Bloomington. We encourage all graduate students to complete the survey, which runs until May 17. These results will help guide improvements to services, programs and curricula for all graduate students. And to provide a greater incentive, once you complete the survey you will be entered into a weekly drawing of two $500 Amazon gift cards, so the earlier you complete the survey, the more chances you will have to win a drawing. Thanks to all who have, or will, complete the survey!
Sincerely,
David Daleke Dean, IUB Graduate School |
