Participate in CIRTL

Gain teaching skills

Graduate students and postdoctoral scholars who participate in CIRTL will develop skills that help them see teaching as a dynamic and ongoing process aimed at understanding and improving student learning. CIRTL Network events and CIRTL@IUB activities help participants engage in and reflect on CIRTL Network events in a sequential way, aligning with the CIRTL learning outcomesThese three CIRTL outcomes recognize:

  • the role of the CIRTL core ideas in effective teaching and learning,
  • scholarly teaching that uses the CIRTL ideas to demonstrably improve learning of students, and
  • scholarship that advances teaching and learning, and makes the results public.

Prepare for academic jobs

Beyond what CIRTL graduate students and postdocs learn about and learn to do, their participation in CIRTL has personal and professional benefits as well.

  • Be in community with people across North America who share interests in teaching and learning.
  • Receive mentoring and training to become effective teachers.
  • Develop leadership and networking skills.
  • Earn and showcase Associate, Practitioner, and Scholar digital badges.
  • Gain competitive advantage in academic career searches.
  • Have increased success as junior faculty members.
