Be the voice of your graduating class One student speaker will address the approximately 8,000 attendees, representing all academic units, at the IU Bloomington Spring Graduate Commencement Ceremony on Friday, May 8, 2026, as the Graduate Commencement Student Speaker. The selected speaker will be seated on stage with other members of the platform party during the ceremony and will deliver a 3-5 minute speech (approximately 500-750 words). IU will aid in speech development and editing. How to apply IUB graduate students graduating in May or summer 2026 are invited to apply. CIRTL January Event: Finishing your Dissertation or Thesis All graduate students and postdocs have free access to programming offered through the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL). CIRTL courses, workshops, and events provide numerous resources to develop your professional skills, particularly with regard to teaching. CIRTL will be hosting an online event, Finishing Your Dissertation or Thesis, on January 22nd at 4 pm. Participants will discuss practical strategies for completing a dissertation or thesis. These strategies emphasize ways to discover when you write best, making writing a more consistent practice and helping you become a more productive writer. This is the first event in CIRTL's eight-part series: The Joyful Journey: Graduate Student and Postdoctoral Scholar Professional Development Series. Registration is required. |
| 31st Annual Preparing Future Faculty (PFF) Conference - January 23rd The PFF conference is a one-day professionalization event designed to provide graduate students from all disciplines and at all phases of their education with important information about preparing for their future academic careers. This year, the conference will feature four sessions (three panels and one roundtable) addressing different issues of concern to graduate students. Topics will include navigating the job market, changes impacting faculty in higher education, and exploring the variety of professional opportunities available inside (and outside) of academia, among other subjects. | Resume and Cover Letter Writing Workshops The Graduate School provides career support opportunities for master’s and PhD students. This spring, attend an in-person workshop for support with your resume, cover letter, or CV, or to learn strategies for interview preparation. January 30 (10:00-11:30 am ET): Graduate Resume & CV Writing Group: From Draft to Done Location: University Graduate School Conference Room, East Tower, Suite 546 Herman B Wells Library, 1320 E 10th St, Bloomington, IN 47405 Need to finally sit down and finish your resume or CV? This session is all about making your resume or CV ready. We’ll start with a few quick tips, then give you time to work, get feedback, and make edits right on the spot. Bring a draft if you have one (or even just notes), but no worries if you don’t, we’ll provide templates and real examples. | Internal Fellowship Awards John H Edwards Fellowship Department Nomination Deadline Tuesday, February 3, 2026 The John H. Edwards Fellowship is one of the University’s most prestigious academic awards. The Edwards Trust Fund provides income for multiple fellowships of approximately $25,000 each for graduate students in terminal degree programs at any campus of Indiana University in the academic year 2026-2027. A university-wide committee selects the fellows from nominations made by the deans of departments and schools. External Grants Boren Awards Internal Review Deadline (Optional): Wednesday, January 14, 2026 The Graduate School is happy to review your essays and/or program plans. If you would like us to review your application materials, please email them to ugsawrd@iu.edu by January 14, 2026. Students apply directly to the Boren Awards National Deadline: January 21, 2026 Boren Fellowships fund research and language study proposals by U.S. graduate students in world regions critical to U.S. interests. Awards are determined by the duration of time spent abroad. The maximum award is $25,000 for 25-52 weeks, or up to $12,500 for 12-24 weeks of overseas study.
