Bennett College
What degree are you working toward?
I am currently working to earn my Ph.D in Curriculum and Instruction with a minor in Science Education.
Why did you choose graduate school at IU Bloomington?
I chose to attend IU Bloomington because of the opportunities provided for me to reach my desired professional and graduate degree aspirations. Before coming to IU Bloomington, I researched my program online, and also spoke with many of the faculty and students in my department. Everyone was quite friendly, and supportive of my research interest and the path I need to pursue to complete my academic goals.
What's been your favorite academic accomplishment since you've been here?
My favorite academic accomplishment since I've been enrolled as a Ph.D student in Science Education has been working with my advisor, Dr. Meredith Park-Rogers, on cutting edge research with teachers use of representations for science within rural elementary classroom settings. As part of the research team, I work with colleagues from different departments on campus to develop my skills as a future educational researcher. Also, by participating in the research group, I have been provided an opportunity to enter into classrooms and conduct coaching sessions with current teachers. Each coaching session I have with teachers invigorates my passion towards science education and the need for passionate researchers.
What do you enjoy most about life in Bloomington?
What I enjoy most about Bloomington are the many outdoor activities that are available from the the B-line, walking trails and Lake Monroe to keep you physically fit.
