Where did you complete your Undergraduate Studies?
Eastern Kentucky University
What degree are you working toward?
I am pursuing an MA in Musicology at Jacobs School of Music, and I am currently in my second year.
Why did you choose graduate school at IU Bloomington?
I initially chose to study at Indiana University because Jacobs School of Music has one of the top programs in musicology with some of the leading scholars in the field. Moreover, as a prospective student on my first day of the interviewing process at IU, I was extremely attracted to the multiculturalism of this university. I met students and professors from everywhere around the globe, and these individuals have been a continuous source of knowledge and inspiration for me.
What's been your favorite academic accomplishment since you've been here?
In Spring 2018, I had the opportunity to be the curator for a facsimile exposition of books containing music notation from the Medieval period at The William and Gayle Cook Music Library. Aside from the knowledge and experience that I obtained, it was extremely gratifying as I had the opportunity to work with like-minded peers and one of the leading scholars in the field.
What do you enjoy most about life in Bloomington?
I am continually taken aback by the vast variety of restaurants, events, and student resources at IU campus. I had the opportunity to attend several concerts, ballets, seminars, workshops, panel discussions, and among others, not only in my department but also at Wells Library. All these resources have guided me and helped me to achieve the necessary tools for research, social engagement, and personal fulfillment. There are so many resources available for students at no additional cost that often I regret not having enough time to use it all. It is also encouraging to be able to find people that share the same values and interests as I do, and that show their support for my education. Besides, the architecture and landscape of this campus continually fascinate and inspire me.
